You will notice that there are many art show listings here (noted by * in front of the date) as well as musical listings.  I have been buying Juxtapoz art magazine since 1994 and feel strongly about supporting underground artists.  Artists can take the form of painters, sculptors, poets, musicians, tattoo artists, etc.  In these repressive times all artists and their fans should unite and support one another.  In The Power of Myth, a series of interviews Bill Moyers conducted with Joseph Campbell, Campbell asserts, "Myth must be kept alive.  The people who can keep it alive are artists of one kind or another.  The function of the artist is the mythologization of the environment and the world."  May all of our art arouse critical consciousness, drive themselves/ourselves and its participants/observers/patrons to see the faults in society, in ourselves and commit to reason, vision, decision, and action [inspired by Bertolt Brecht and Augusto Boal].  By including all artists that fit this definition I am trying to do my part.  The galleries I have listed here are nothing like the MOCA.  If you have yet to visit an underground gallery, do yourself a favor and go.

I have also added political/activist oriented events.  These will be noted by an ! in front of the date.-Renae Bryant

This is by no means some all encompassing list of shows.  It is just a small list of some shows I stumbled upon that should rock your ass.  Hope it is helpful.
